MGMT- Congratulations

I've been a fan since Oracular Spectacular. I had the privilege of seeing them a couple of times before it was costing $80 a ticket. Andrew VanWyngarden is an incredible performer along with Ben Goldwasser & whichever musicians they choose to get psychedelic with. My parents were class of '69 and went to Woodstock, saw Zeppelin, early Stones, everything that was the rage at the time. These boys give me a sensation of what I think that previous generation was feeling dealing with the Vietnam War and entering into The Summer of Love and the pure funk of the 70's. Kind of like the Beatles' Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band when The Bee Gees made the movie. Or The Band: The Weight when it met Easy Rider. MGMT also gives me a hint of the future. Technology, the rising youth, consumerism, global networking.... and still: peace, love, and rock & roll. I dig it. Here is the video for the title track:

Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros- Home

I think I have found my people! Alex Ebert created the persona Edward Sharpe who "was sent down to Earth to kinda heal and save mankind...but he kept getting distracted by girls and falling in love."

Also, of the 12 part feature length musical Salvo!, here are Part 1:

And part 2:

Passion Pit- Little Secrets

Michael Angelakos has Tom Waits hair. He is accompanied by 4 fellow music nerds. These guys are tight and upbeat. I keep paying a dollar to hear this song on the jukebox at work.

The Temper Trap- Sweet Disposition

Dig these Aussie rockers. Dougy Mandagi's vocal range is brave and catchy. Its such a great, dancey tune.
Lorenzo Silitto, Dougy Mandagi (vocals), Jonny Aherne, Toby Dundas

...'cause I'm all hot for Julian today. Why not?

Boombox (ft. Julian Casablancas)

I f'ing love Julian Casablancas' voice. Go, Andy Samberg. A good sense of humor is the best medicine. I really appreciate people who can keep a straight face doing the funniest things.

N.A.S.A.- O Pato

N.A.S.A.'s album Spirit of Apollo is tight. They collaborate with all the cool kids.

TV On The Radio- Wolf Like Me

Always a great song to get rowdy to. They are SO much fun live. The lead singer, Tunde Adebimpe, trances out on the music so hard. And Kyp Malone on guitar/vocals is Superfly.

New Massive Attack w/Hope Sandoval

Rasputina- The Olde HeadBoard

They are sultry, live, in their corsets and with their cellos. Yes, children, vampires have been popular for quite some time. You are not the first dark spawn.

Funny Papa Smith- Seven Sisters Blues Part 2

I discovered this phenomenal musician by chance... in the library. To be honest, it is some of the most soothing music I have ever heard. It is true blues. It sings to my soul. It is a shame he is/was not documented more thoroughly. My 8 year old asked what the crackling was in the background. I explained how much recording methods had changed. She said he sounded like he was singing by a fire. Exactly as I imagine he would like it. May blessings find his kin.
Last FM has links HERE
"Next to nothing concrete is known of John T. Smith's life; assumed to have been born in East Texas during the latter half of the 1880s, he was a minstrel who wandered about the panhandle region...Smith settled down long enough to record some 22 songs between 1930 and 1931, among them his trademark number "Howling Wolf Blues, Parts One and Two"; indeed, he claimed the alternate nickname "Howling Wolf" some two decades before it was appropriated by his more famous successor, Chester Burnett. ...His career came to an abrupt end during the mid-'30s, when he was arrested for murdering a man over a gambling dispute; Smith was found guilty and imprisoned, and is believed to have died in his cell circa 1940."— Jason Ankeny, All Music Guide

Jonathan Richman- Tahitian Hop/Abdul & Cleopatra

Love The Modern Lovers
Jonathan Richman is humorous and true. I want one of him for myself. Abdul & Cleopatra is hands down superb.

Hey Ocean!- A song About California

Apparently, they formed on the beaches of Costa Rica. A perfect place to start...

The Asteroids Galaxy Tour- The Golden Age (live)

Yes, Mette Lindberg! And you know how I feel about horns. Trumpets really do it for me. "With fire burning in a wooden heart."

Dragonette- Gone Too Far (live)

Martina Sorbara is f***ing great. And her hair looks amazing.

Gap Commercial Starring Daft Punk Juliette Lewis

... because you know I love them both ...

Kid Cudi-Make Her Say ft. Kanye West & Common

Love the Gaga sample. Hate to double up on an artist because I don't want to favorite anyone. However, Kid Cudi (Scott Ramon Seguro Mescudi) just knows how and who to collaborate with. Its good.

Kid Cudi W/Ratatat & MGMT

Love this collaboration.

Bomba Estéreo - Fuego (Live on KEXP)

Ella es muy caliente. Not to mention this is one of my FAVE radio stations.

Juliette Lewis- Uh Huh

A Natural Born Killer.

La Roux- I'm Not Your Toy

Yes to the pompadour.

Imogen Heap "Hide and Seek"

Jason Darulo's song was MADE by this one. And just in time to promote her new album. And let's not forget the amazing use of this song in The O.C.

Fan Death - Reunited - Official Music Video

love the choreography ;)

PHOENIX

Thomas Mars and Sofia Coppola just had their first child together. She & I were @ Cal Arts at the same time. They chose wisely of eachother. May their family affairs inspire much more incredible songwriting and filmmaking. Cheers!!!

Heartless Bastards - LIVE 'The Mountain'

Erika Wennerstrom is badass. I, myself, do not have a high pitched, trilling girl voice. It is much more comfortable in the down-low range. I will actually have to admit that when I first heard this song, I thought it was a dude. But let me tell you... when I found out it was she, it made the raw edge even more scathing and wonderful. Thanks mama.

Zero 7 "Swing"

I missed them when they last came to town. SO bummed. Seriously... super humble. Strictly music. No glamour. No facade.

Dragonette - Fixin' To Thrill

Maybe I lucked out, but this was the first Dragonette song I heard or watched the video for. I was like: Hell yeah.
