The Black Keys- Little Black Submarines

One (just one) of the crappy highlights of my year was winning tickets to The Black Keys/Tegan & Sara, but losing them because I had to leave for work five minutes before they called my name. A friend of mine won them in my stead. However, come showtime, I believe he was trying to sell them on Craigslist.

When I don't have a man in my life, I turn to the men in my music.

"Little Black Submarines"

Little black submarines
Operator please
Put me back on the line
Told my girl I'd be back
Operator please
This is wreckin' my mind

Oh can it be
The voices calling me
They get lost
And out of time
I should've seen it glow
But everybody knows
That a broken heart is blind
That a broken heart is blind

Pick you up, let you down
When I wanna go
To a place I can hide
You know me, I had plans
But they just disappeared
To the back of my mind

Oh can it be
The voices calling me
They get lost
And out of time
I should've seen a glow
But everybody knows
That a broken heart is blind
That a broken heart is blind

Treasure maps, fallen trees
Operator please
Call me back when it's time
Stolen friends and disease
Operator please
Patch me back to my mind

Oh can it be
The voices calling me
They get lost
And out of time
I should've seen a glow
But everybody knows
That a broken heart is blind
That a broken heart is blind
That a broken heart is blind

Citizens!- True Romance

I love when someone can pull off a good, "Woo!"

Of Monsters And Men- Mountain Sound

I admit that when I first heard this, I thought Nanna Bryndís Hilmarsdóttir was Florence collab-ing with someone else. So good for them.

Kitten- Cut It Out

Seabear

It's rainy in San Diego. This calls for strings and horns.

The bird that woke you has fallen asleep.....

Arctic Monkeys- Crying Lightning

More monkeys. Alex Turner, your voice rivals some of my absolute faves. Actually, the Arctic Monkeys were the very original post in this blog. I decided I wanted to have a place to keep the videos I enjoyed. This is the story I tell in music; this is the story the music tells me. So say I. Thanks to the anonymous people who come here. Enjoy.

I love Sarah Barthel's style. She's another Karen O.

Beach House- Wild

Seeing Beach House live is as strangely ominous as this video. Oh the stories that a city holds...

Blind Pilot- 3 Rounds And A Sound

This poem speaks for me in tenderness where the harshness of my own words fail.

"3 Rounds And A Sound"

They're playing our song
They're playing our song
Can you see the lights?
Can you hear the hum,
of our song?

I hope they get it right
I hope we dance tonight
Before we, get it wrong

And the seasons
Will change us new
But you're the best I've known
and you know me
I could not be stuck on you
If it weren't true

I was swimming
My eyes were dark
'til you woke me
And told me that opening
is just the start
It was

Now I see you, 'til kingdom come
You're the one I want
to see me for all
the stupid shit I've done

Soil and six feet under,
Kept just like we were
Before you knew you'd know me
and you know me

Blooming up from the ground
3 rounds and a sound
Like whispering "you know me.
You know me."

So this was our song
This was our song.
I still see the lights
I can see them

And the crisscross
Of what is true, won't get to us
'Cause you know me-
I could not give up on you...

And the fog of
what is right
Won't cover us
'cause you know me-
I could not give up a fight...

Soil and six feet under
(Crisscross of what is true, won't get to us)
Kept just like we were
(Cause you know me. I could not give up on you)
Before you knew you'd know me
(But you feel the truth)
And you know me

Blooming up from the ground
(And the fog of what is right won't cover us)
3 rounds and a sound
(Cause you know me, I could not give up a fight)
Like whispering "you know me
(But you feel right)
You know me."

Iggy Azalea- Bac 2 Tha Future (My Time)

Steve Aoki- The Kids Will Have Their Say

Steve Aoki is responsible for Dim Mak records and Dim Mak's show space in Hollywood which is.... awesome. He has two degrees, one in Women's Studies and the other in Sociology. Hmmmmmmm. His dad was a wrestler AND founded Benihana restaurants.

It's been a while since a video gave me chills. I respect the voice he is speaking for; with; at. It is what makes humans progress and evolve. We desire to push borders and test boundaries. I had a flash memory of the WTO Riots, but there weren't nearly enough people in the video to emulate all of downtown Seattle.

I love Guerrillas!

Krazy Baldhead

Frenchie,  Pierre-Antoine Grison aka Krazy Baldhead, has been my chill out night music lately. Neither of these are my fave songs on his 2012 album, but they are the songs that they made videos to. One is a day in the life of a pinwheel and the other is a weirdo party with a Little Buddha. Go figure. He's Krazy Baldhead.

ON FACEBOOK

The Barr Brothers

I can't get enough of this Canadian quartet these days.

A favorite......

Diplo- Set It Off feat. Lazerdisk Party Sex

No Doubt- Settle Down

I have been paying attention to this broad's career for more than twenty years. She is a Deity of song and style and does amazing acrobatics onstage. She is our OG little punk girl from the OC. Doing it again.....

Catpower- Lived In Bars

I have seen Chan Marshall perform in several environments, from a shoebox bar where the patrons sat cross-legged on the floor waiting for her, to a piano performance she did wearing a wig to cover her face the entire time, or huge gatherings with throngs of people focused on her lilting, tumbling, passionate vocals. She is, hands down, one of the most incredible singer/songwriters of our time.

Silversun Pickups- Dots and Dashes

Brian Aubert and Nikki Monninger are just so amazing together.... Their website is HERE.

Walk Off The Earth- Summer Vibe

Toots & The Maytals- 54-46 That's My Number Live in 1975

Calvin Harris- Let's Go feat. Ne-Yo and Bounce feat. Kelis

I happen to love Calvin Harris videos. They are like small, societal tableaus. The track and the video can be somewhat anti-climactic to me. But sometimes so is a day in the life; maybe more right on, than not. It is now or never. Right now. A shout out to Pepsi. A can of Pepsi has 41 grams of sugar in it. Who needs sizzurp?

Make The Girl Dance- Tchiki Tchiki Tchiki

Sooooo...... Bad....... Ass........!!!!

Again, repeat on girl groups I love.

Rebecca & Fiona- Bullets

Can never get enough of these girls.

I've posted them before. This song even, different version. But, um, this is me here now. If I repeat myself.... that's just becoming old friends.

Major Lazer- Get Free feat. Amber of Dirty Projectors

brain/heart explodes in a cry of yes

Major Lazer is a fictional cartoon character, who fought as a Jamaican commando and lost both arms in a secret zombie war in 1984. He fights vampires and various monsters, parties hard, and has a rocket-powered hoverboard. Booyah.

Childish Gambino- Heartbeat

This is full of bad words. You've been warned.

Childish Gambino is Donald Glover (born 1983) who used to write for 30 Rock. In May 2010 he encouraged his twitter fans to retweet the hashtag "#donald4spiderman" in a campaign to be allowed to audition for the role as Peter Parker. He even got the support of Stan Lee.

This song is gnarly right on. Find his website HERE.

The Head and the Heart - Lost In My Mind (OFFICIAL VIDEO)

Yes. Seattle makes good music. This little ditty, though. It's a universal message. Caters to my sadness and at the same time lifts my spirits. A great quality to have in a song.

Haywyre

Haywyre is Martin S. Vogt. He started playing piano at the age of 6 and an interest in electronica grew after a time spent living in Austria. Visit his website HERE.
I'm liking his vibe. When I cull music, I know immediately which songs are disruptive to my flow. Haywyre stayed on repeat this morning with frequent returns to a few specific tracks. No complaints. What a breakfast treat.
